What is
AGEING DEAL?
Longer lives are one of our most remarkable collective achievements, however it poses an important challenge to our European societies that require important transformation to support healthy ageing together. This includes changes to the healthcare systems and to the society as a whole to ensure that Healthy Ageing Policies and Innovations promote health and equity across European generations and regions. Ageing Deal is a groundbreaking European initiative dedicated to fostering a healthier, more inclusive future for older adults.

The combination of open sciences and trustworthy innovations, the European Health Data Space and other European cohorts with rapid digital transformations hold unprecedented opportunities. It has the potential to increase people’s health, autonomy and independence while ageing. It should help transform and optimise healthcare systems and pathways, integrating prevention and care. In our era of rapid digital transformation, Ageing Deal must also prioritise health and digital literacy, equipping ageing citizens with the knowledge and skills needed to cope with the management of their own health and be involved in the modern healthcare landscape with more confidence and self-esteem.
The Ageing Deal is a new initiative by European projects funded under the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action, call HORIZON-HLTH-2023-STAYHLTH-01-01: The Silver Deal – Person-centred health and care in European regions. Shifting our focus from ‘Silver’ to ‘Ageing’, the Ageing Deal fosters policies and innovations for healthier and more inclusive future for older adults.
Our proposed Ageing Deal is designed as a think tank to shape futures with healthier ageing. Whether you are a researcher, healthcare professional, policymaker, innovator, or community/patient advocate, your expertise and commitment can contribute to a future where ageing is embraced with dignity, technology is leveraged responsibly, and no one is left behind.
Why do we
need an
AGEING DEAL?
ComfortAge: COMFORTAGE is a joint effort of medical experts, social scientists and humanists, technical experts, Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) and Living Labs (LLs) to establish a pan European framework for Community-based, Integrated and People-Centric prevention, monitoring and progression managing solutions for dementia and frailty.
STAGE: Ageing with multi-morbidity is likely preventable. STAGE is a European Research and Innovation project studying healthy ageing and multi-morbidity using a life-course approach. It tackles the gaps in knowledge to understand life-long processes and their connections with biological, environmental, social, historical and infrastructural factors.
We need to gain a deeper understanding of people’s diverse living environments, social stressors, and the biology of ageing. The research in STAGE will use data spanning the entire life-course to enable us to understand ageing patterns. This knowledge will be translated into concrete, effective prevention programmes and solutions for people to age more healthily
Smile: Musculoskeletal non-communicable diseases affect the bones, joints, and muscles, making movement painful and difficult. They often lead to reduced mobility and a loss of independence—especially as people age—and include common conditions such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic back pain. Due to demographic ageing, Europe’s society is facing a major challenge, and new solutions are needed for the healthcare system and society as a whole. This is where our project steps in.
Bringing together 26 partners from across Europe, SmILE is developing smart solutions for earlier diagnosis and better long-term care of musculoskeletal diseases. With AI-driven insights and a patient-centred approach, we aim to empower older adults to take charge of their health and stay active for longer.
